What are Pre-Employment Transition Services?

Pre-ETS are a series of activities specifically tailored to empower students with disabilities, aged 14 to 22, to explore career options, develop essential work-readiness skills, and gain valuable work-based learning experiences. Our dedicated team of vocational counselors and experts work closely with educators and support networks to provide a holistic approach to your career development.

The Five Pillars of Pre-ETS

Our Pre-Employment Transition Services encompass five crucial categories, each designed to address a specific aspect of your career readiness:

1. Job (Career) Exploration Counseling

Through interactive assessments, virtual career fairs, and hands-on activities, we help you identify your interests, strengths, and abilities, and explore potential career paths that align with your passions. We aim to increase your motivation and confidence in preparing for the workforce by exposing you to a wide range of opportunities. You'll have the chance to utilize tools like Texas OnCourse, O'Net, Labor Market and Career Information (LMCI), and Jobs Y'all to gain insights into growing industries and in-demand careers in the local area and throughout the state.

2. Work-Based Learning Experiences

Nothing beats real-world experience. Our Work-Based Learning Experiences allow you to observe professionals in action and participate in job shadowing, internships, and hands-on work experiences. These invaluable opportunities allow you to develop essential work behaviors, assess your strengths and areas for improvement, and build a network of industry contacts. From career mentorships and competitions to paid and unpaid internships, we provide a diverse range of experiences to suit your unique needs and goals.

3. Counseling on Postsecondary Educational Opportunities

Continuing education can open doors to a world of possibilities. Our counselors provide comprehensive guidance on the various postsecondary educational options available, including community colleges, universities, trade schools, and vocational training programs. We assist you in navigating the application process, exploring financial aid opportunities like FAFSA, Pell Grants, and scholarships, and understanding the support services available on campus, such as disability services. We'll also explore options like Job Corps and military paths, ensuring you have a comprehensive understanding of the opportunities that lie ahead

4. Workplace Readiness Training

Success in the workplace extends beyond technical skills. Our Workplace Readiness Training equips you with essential soft skills, such as communication, positive attitude, teamwork, problem-solving, and professionalism. We also cover independent living skills, including good hygiene, time management, healthy lifestyle choices, money management, and community participation. By mastering these crucial skills, you'll be better prepared to thrive in any work environment.

5. Self-Advocacy Instruction

Empowerment starts with self-advocacy. Our Self-Advocacy Instruction empowers you to identify your needs, communicate your wants effectively, and understand your rights and responsibilities in the workplace. We foster self-determination and provide strategies for requesting accommodations, setting goals, and making informed decisions about your future.
